One of the deepest western collections available direct from a restoration label — B-western series pictures, Saturday matinee serials, later spaghetti westerns and restored studio features. Many of these films exist today only because prints survived in private and archival collections.
The B-Western Stars
Between the early 1930s and the mid-1950s, American studios turned out series westerns at a pace that has never been matched, built around performers whose names carried a picture on their own. The double-feature and four-feature sets here are organised the same way, by star. The collection covers Buck Jones across several volumes, Johnny Mack Brown, Bob Steele, Bob Baker, Bill Elliott, Allan "Rocky" Lane, Charles Starrett and Buster Crabbe, along with Big Boy Williams and the multi-star Cowboy Heroes and Darn Good Westerns collections.
Serials and Matinee Adventures
The chapter serial was the engine of Saturday afternoon cinema, and westerns were its natural home. Titles in the collection include Adventures of Red Ryder, Fighting with Kit Carson, Flaming Frontiers and the Cisco Kid Western Collection. Gordon of Ghost City is available as a 2K restored special edition on both DVD and Blu-ray — a rare case of a 1930s serial receiving full restoration treatment.
Spaghetti Westerns and Later Classics
The European westerns of the 1960s and 1970s are represented by A Bullet for Sandoval, available restored on DVD and on Blu-ray, and by Robert Hossein's Cemetery Without Crosses in a Blu-ray and DVD edition. The 1975 Fred Williamson vehicle Boss is stocked as a DVD and Blu-ray combo.
Restored Studio Westerns
Alongside the series pictures sit full studio productions. Stranger on Horseback, the Joel McCrea western directed by Jacques Tourneur, is available as a restored special edition on Blu-ray.
