Classic Movies on Blu-ray
Every VCI Entertainment title currently available on Blu-ray, including 4K UHD editions, double features and Blu-ray + DVD combo packs. These are high-definition transfers taken from new film scans rather than upscaled video masters.
Why These Films Look Different in High Definition
A Blu-ray is only as good as the element it came from. Most of the films in this collection predate digital cinema by decades, so each release begins with a scan of the best surviving print or negative — commonly at 2K or 4K — followed by cleanup and colour work carried out from that scan. The result retains natural film grain and the original theatrical framing. Titles restored this way include the Creepy-Creature Double-Feature from a 4K restoration, the 2K restored Gordon of Ghost City, and the Mexican features El Bruto and Espaldas Mojadas.
4K UHD Editions
A growing number of titles are released on 4K Ultra HD alongside their standard Blu-ray editions, among them An American Werewolf in London, Children of the Corn, Ghoulies and Dune. Where both exist, the standard Blu-ray and the 4K UHD are listed as separate products so you can choose the format your player supports.
Double Features and Combo Packs
Pairing two related films on one disc is a long-standing part of how VCI releases the catalogue, and it remains one of the better values in the collection. Current double bills include Film Noir Classics with Borderline (1950) and D.O.A. (1949), the Poverty Row Classics series, and the Bolo Yeung double feature of Bloodfight and Ironheart. Blu-ray + DVD combo packs contain both discs in a single case — useful if you want the high-definition transfer but still need a DVD for a second player.
Collector's Editions and Limited Releases
Special and collector's editions carry additional material where it exists: commentaries, restoration comparisons, archival featurettes and booklets. Examples include Laurel & Hardy: The Definitive Restorations, the Dark Night of the Scarecrow Ultimate Collector's Edition double-feature, Gorgo: Ultimate Collector's Edition, Attack of the Killer Tomatoes in a two-disc special edition, and Impact (1949). Limited editions are produced in a single pressing and are not routinely reprinted.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Are VCI Blu-rays region free?
- Region coding is set per title and is listed in the technical details on each product page. Check there before ordering if you are outside North America.
- Do I need a 4K player for the 4K UHD editions?
- Yes. 4K UHD discs require a 4K UHD player and will not play in a standard Blu-ray player. Where a title is also available on standard Blu-ray, it is listed as a separate product.
- What is included in a Blu-ray + DVD combo?
- Both discs, in one case, at one price.
